Steve Arvey and IBC winner Selwyn Birchwood team up to perform at the Riverwalk Pavillion December 6th from 6pm to 9pm.This is a pre-festival event for the BradentonBlues Festival on Sat. Dec. 7th.
This will be a special performance for me. Playing at the Palladium in St. Petersburg. The performance will be about the history of the Blues. I will start the show with a One-String Diddley Bow like they did in the early 20′s. Then play some early blues of the 30’s and 40’s. Later, The Delta Swamp Rat’s will join me for some Mississippi Delta Funk. After a short a break, the full electric band will join me with the incredible Josh Nelms. Who I feel is one of the best new blues guitarists on the planet and can play every style of blues. This set we will have everybody dancing with a wide mixture of Chicago Shuffles, West Side Boogie and Funky South Side Grooves.

Steve Arvey (BLUES) Early exposure to the music of great country bluesmen like Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Bukka White, and Leadbelly made a lasting impression on a young Steve Arvey. The three decades since have seen Arvey performing all over Europe, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand while being lauded by some of the toughest critics in the roots music genre. A stint while living in Gainesville backing Bo Diddley was a watershed experience and when a resident of Chicago, he worked as a sideman playing bass guitar, guitar, and drums behind such blues luminaries as Hubert Sumlin, Jimmy Rogers, Homesick James, Carey Bell, Big Jack Johnson, Sam Carr, Frank Frost, Eddie Taylor, Eddie Clearwater, Sugar Blue, Abb Locke, Hip Linkchain and Junior Wells.
A Tampa-based quintet formed in 2012, the Cigar City Blues Band features an exciting and unique blend of talent – including several national recording artists – performing blues classics as well as original compositions. Incorporating sounds and grooves birthed in roots-music meccas such as Chicago, Mississippi, and Memphis, while crossing over into jazz and rock via the British blues boom of the 1960s, the band provides listeners with a varied and distinct sound; instrumentation includes electric guitar, harmonica, keyboards, twelve-string slide guitar, five-string bass and drums.
featuring Steve Arvey launched this new project in 2012 to recreate the Juke Joint sounds of the Mississippi Delta from the ’40s and the ’50s while adding the funk and soul grooves of the ’60s. The band is a regular at The House Of Blues in Orlando. thedeltaswamprats.fourfour.com
